Arizona buyers should expect us to ask more questions than most about summer housing. It is not a formality.
What the Arizona climate means for a Holland Lop
Phoenix is the most extreme heat environment we ship into. A Holland Lop cannot survive a Phoenix summer outdoors, and that is not a figure of speech. Air conditioning is not optional and neither is a plan for what happens if the power goes out in August. Flagstaff is a completely different climate and much easier.
What Arizona owners should know
Arizona is where we ask the most questions, and the reason is simple: we have lost track of how many people have told us the rabbit will be "in the shade" in a Phoenix backyard. Shade in Phoenix in July is still 105°F. The state does have good exotics care, particularly in the Phoenix and Tucson metros, and Arizona has a real rabbit rescue community that exists precisely because so many people underestimate the summer. Flagstaff, at 7,000 feet, is a different country climatically and one of the better rabbit environments in the southwest.
