Arlen Rabbitry sends bunnies to New Mexico the year round. We are in Bakersfield, California, we raise Mini Lop Rabbits indoors, and the ground leg to New Mexico is handled by a USDA certified pet transport service: climate-controlled vehicle, road the whole way, never a cargo hold. Prefer to collect? Come to Bakersfield and pick yours in person. $200 for bucks and does alike.
It starts with a message: which bunny, and where in New Mexico. We price that run for your address and come back with a date, and the date is chosen by the weather on the route rather than by what is convenient.
Then a USDA certified pet transport service takes over the ground leg. They do this for a living, in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water and a look at the animal. There is no flight involved at any point and your bunny never travels as cargo.
They hand your bunny to you at your door, in person, and you will have heard from us while it was on the road rather than only at the end.
From two days. The New Mexico run is 800 to 1,000 miles and takes 1 to 2 days, counting the water stops and the overnight breaks that any decent transporter builds in. Out along the I-40 and one of our easier long runs. Summer through the low desert stretch goes overnight.
And if the drive appeals more than the wait, Bakersfield is about 14 to 17 hours from New Mexico, which most people split as two days each way with an overnight stop. Come and collect, meet the litter, take your time choosing. It costs nothing but the fuel.
New Mexico is 800 to 1,000 miles from us, 1 to 2 days on the road. The run is handled by a USDA certified pet transport service, in a climate-controlled vehicle with regular stops for water and a check. Your bunny goes by road the whole way: never flown, and never shipped as cargo.
What this breed's size means for the journey. At 4.5 to 6.5 lb a Mini Lop needs a larger carrier than a Holland and more airflow around it. Not a difficulty, just a bigger box and one more stop on a long run.

The denser body holds heat longer than a Holland Lop does, so a Mini Lop is the one we are most careful with on a summer run. Overnight travel from May onward, without exception.
Raised indoors and handled daily. If one of these has gone by the time you write, ask and we will tell you honestly what is coming rather than take a deposit against a maybe.

A Mini Lop carries more body than a Holland and holds heat longer, which makes the Southwest summer a real consideration rather than a caution. Dry air helps, and the ears do their job well in it, but a 6lb rabbit in a Phoenix garage in July is a serious risk. Indoors, cooled, with more water than you expect.
Size. 4.5 to 6.5 lb full grown, noticeably heavier than a Holland Lop. Care. The heavier body means nails wear less and need cutting more often, roughly monthly. Watch the weight: a Mini Lop will happily eat past what it needs, and an overweight rabbit cannot groom its own back end properly, which causes real problems.
What it gets mistaken for. Frequently sold as a Holland Lop by people who do not know the difference, and the two are not interchangeable: a Mini Lop is roughly twice the weight. Ask for the adult weight of both parents. Everything about the Mini Lop.
Same journey, same price, different rabbit. Worth comparing before the distance matters.
Worth settling before the distance and the delivery. The steadiest of the four in our experience, and the one we suggest to somebody who wants a rabbit that will sit still and be handled. The extra weight makes them feel solid rather than delicate.
If that does not describe your household, say so and we will tell you which of the four would suit better. Sometimes the answer is none of them, and that is a better outcome than a rabbit in the wrong home in New Mexico.
Tell us whereabouts in New Mexico you are and whether you want a buck or a doe, and we will give you the price, the transit time and an honest view of when it could travel.
