Getting a Holland Lop to Indiana

The caution is that a basement can also be the most isolated room, and a Holland Lop kept somewhere nobody goes is a lonely animal. This is a companion breed and it does badly at a distance from the household.

If the basement is where the rabbit lives, make it somewhere people actually spend time rather than somewhere the rabbit is stored.

Keeping a Holland Lop in the Midwest

The Midwest failure mode is a rabbit kept in an unheated garage where the water bottle freezes overnight in January and nobody notices for two days. A Holland Lop copes with cold and does not cope with no water.

Size. About 2 to 4 lb full grown, the smallest of the lop breeds. Care. A Holland Lop needs its coat checked rather than groomed: a weekly once-over for mats behind the ears and around the tail is the whole of it. Nails every four to six weeks. They are prone to dental trouble if the hay runs out, so unlimited timothy hay is not optional.

What it gets mistaken for. Most often confused with the Mini Lop, which is a different and noticeably heavier breed rather than a bigger Holland. If a seller uses the two names interchangeably, they are not paying attention. Everything about the Holland Lop.
