The Alabama run, start to finish
Before. You pick your bunny and tell us your nearest town. We quote the transport for that address and give you a date, planned around the weather on the route. Nothing is paid before you know the number.
During. A USDA certified pet transport service takes it from here. Road the whole way in a climate-controlled vehicle, stopping regularly for water and a check. No flight, no cargo hold, no airline.
After. Your bunny is handed to you in person at your address, with the paperwork and everything they are going home with. You will have heard from us along the way.
How long it takes to Alabama
From two days. Alabama is 1,900 to 2,200 miles from us, which works out at 3 days by road once the stops and overnight breaks are counted. Summer humidity means overnight travel and a cool vehicle the whole way. Winters are mild enough to be a non-event.
If you would rather drive it yourself, Bakersfield is about 33 to 38 hours from Alabama behind the wheel, two to three days each way with overnight stops. A good number of families do exactly that: you meet the parents, you choose in person rather than from a photograph, and your bunny comes home on somebody's lap. Keeping a Mini Lop in the South
Of our four breeds this is the one we are most careful about sending into the Deep South. A denser body sheds heat slowly and Southern humidity removes the mechanism it would use. It is entirely doable with air conditioning and it is not doable without. We will say that plainly before you commit rather than after.
Size. 4.5 to 6.5 lb full grown, noticeably heavier than a Holland Lop. Care. The heavier body means nails wear less and need cutting more often, roughly monthly. Watch the weight: a Mini Lop will happily eat past what it needs, and an overweight rabbit cannot groom its own back end properly, which causes real problems.
What it gets mistaken for. Frequently sold as a Holland Lop by people who do not know the difference, and the two are not interchangeable: a Mini Lop is roughly twice the weight. Ask for the adult weight of both parents. Everything about the Mini Lop.
