Ask about a rabbit

The more you tell Arlen about your household, the better the answer you get back. One person reads these, so it is a real reply rather than an autoresponder.

Which bunny are you interested in

Pick from the breed you are after. Leave the others alone, and if you are not sure yet just say so at the bottom.

Have you kept a rabbit before?
Where will the rabbit live?

No newsletter, no autoresponder, and your details are never passed on.

The form above asks about your home rather than your payment method, and that is deliberate. Depending on the breed, a rabbit will be part of your household for anywhere from five to fourteen years. The more I know about where one is going, the better I can point you towards the rabbit that will actually suit you.

Answer plainly. If you have never kept a rabbit, say so. That is not a mark against you, and some of the best homes I have placed into were first timers who asked good questions. What I am actually trying to work out is whether the picture in your head matches the animal.

I answer every message, including the ones where the answer is that a rabbit is not right for you.

What happens next

I write back, usually the same day. If you asked about a particular bunny you will get an honest answer about temperament, including the parts that are not flattering. If I think a different one suits you better I will say so, even if the one you picked is the one that would have sold faster.

Nothing is held back for people who ask nicely. Every photograph I have of a rabbit is already on its page.

If you would rather just email

There is no phone number on this site on purpose. I am one person, the rabbits are in my house, and email means I can answer you properly rather than badly while holding a bag of hay.

Where we are

Arlen Rabbitry is in Bakersfield, California. If you are searching for a rabbitry breeding four lop and dwarf breeds near you and you are anywhere in the Central Valley, Fresno, Visalia, or down toward Los Angeles, collection is straightforward and most local buyers come to us in person.

Everyone else has theirs driven. We book the transport and quote you the exact cost for your route before you commit to anything.

The four breeds we raise

All of them are raised the same way: indoors, in the house, handled from a few days old, and stay with us until they are eating well on their own, litter trained and ready for a home of their own.

  • Holland Lops: 2–4 lb, calm, friendly, very handleable. $250 buck, $280 doe.
  • Mini Lops: 4.5–6 lb, sociable and playful. $200.
  • Netherland Dwarfs: 1.5–2.5 lb, lively, best with gentle handling. $250.
  • French Lops: 10–15 lb, placid, docile, a large lap rabbit. $350.

Not sure which suits you? Holland Lop against Mini Lop, or buck against doe. If you would rather just describe your house and be told, write to Arlen.
