Genotype vv, homozygous for the Vienna gene. Vienna masks whatever colour the rabbit would otherwise have been, so a blue eyed white is genetically some other colour underneath and you will only find out what when it is bred.

What a good one looks like

True blue eyes, not grey and not pale. The coat should be pure white with no cream or yellow cast, particularly around the ears and the hindquarters.

What to check for

A yellowish cast to the coat. Eyes that read grey rather than blue. Neither is a health problem but both mean the colour is not what it should be.

Is blue eyed white actually rare?

Genuinely uncommon and priced accordingly by most breeders. The catch is that producing them reliably means working with the Vienna gene, which also produces Vienna marked rabbits as a by-product, and those are a complication rather than a bonus.
